Map Coordinates Exercise.

Directions: Go To Google Maps, www.googlemaps.com

Type in this set of coordinates: 33.9 N, 116.25 W.(Desert NE of Palm Springs CA.)

1. What do you observe here? Describe what you see in terms of pattern, density, and/or concentration?

2. How would you describe this climate area? What visual cues lead you to this conclusion?

Type in this second set of coordinates: 33.75 N, 116.25 W(golf courses in Palm Desert, CA).

3. How far is this location from the first set of coordinates?

4. What is going here? You may need to zoom in or out to understand what you see. Again, describe what you see in terms of pattern, density, concentration.

5. How would you describe human modification of the environment to this area?

6. Zoom out from this location and describe where it is. What about its situation explains its existence?

1.The density of the grass and trees seem very high, in a clustered area with out much of a pattern.
2. Its in the middle of a desert so Id say its pretty dry and hot
3. 18.6
4. Lots of roads and little natural areas. the different roads seem to be clustered in a grid like pattern
and there are alot of them
5.Unlike the the first area we looked at, the National park, this area has very litle nature and has been turned into more of a city.
6. It is close to the Joshua Tree NAtional park, and closer to the shadow hills golf course and many other golf courses and country clubs

Map excercise
1. There looks to be a pretty rocky and rough terrain. It has a high density in terms of being rocky. The pattern is just that it is very rocky at the higher elevations and seems to get less rugged as you go down. The concentration is relatively small as it only takes up about a fifth of the screen in view.

2. Because it is very rocky i would guess the climate to be hot and dry.

3. It is about 19 miles

4. It looks like a field across from a golf course. The pattern is fields spread out over the area. Everything is pretty spread out so the density isn't very high. The concentration is that its spread everywhere and its pretty mush the same throughout.

5. They probably cut the grass on the golf course and they make the bunkers by putting sand in the holes on the course.
6. It is in a suburban area and it is nearby to a large city. It looks to be a field that might be holding some kind of cash crop. So it is a field just on the edge of the suburb and city.
